negative discovery

Tell me:

Are you much in the habit

of looking—never finding

whatever it is

for which you search,

but instead apprising yourself

of knowledge, unwelcome and

unbidden?

If thee are like me, prithee:

What do ye seek?

If for love, you find emptiness;

If for strength, you find fear—

If for truth, you grasp

the ubiquity of

lies—

Then you, too,

have happened upon

negative discovery

If in looking for X, you stumble upon Y

If while hunting after one, you’re surrounded by five

If while scrying the depths, you’re left high and dry—

Then you’re privy to

the quest that I lead
